Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll and MBTA GM Eng joined Mayor Gary Christenson at the Malden Center Station today to announce the launch of the MBTA’s income-eligible reduced fare program.

In attendance were state and MBTA officials and other community members including MBTA Advisory Board staff. Addressing the press, officials emphasized the importance of mobility and affordable access to transportation.

Applications will open tomorrow, September 4, to the public for Reduced-Fare T passes. The passes will offer a 50% reduction on trip fares to riders with disabilities and Medicare cardholders, people 65 and older, some middle and high school students, people 18 – 25 with low income, and people 18 – 64 enrolled in state assistance. Pass holders will also receive discounted passes at $10 for 7-Day LinkPasses and $30 for monthly LinkPasses. WBUR reporting predicts the passes will benefit around 60,000 riders.
