“…Brian Kane, the executive director of the MBTA Advisory Board, the T’s oversight body, said he didn’t see the fare engagement program ‘generating significantly new revenue.’ He said that one of the main complaints he hears from people who use the subways is a belief that ‘fare evasion is rampant and is a problem,’ and that this program is an attempt to squash that perception.
‘I also think that part of the strategy here is to show the public and decision makers that the T takes fare evasion seriously and is attempting to mitigate its effects in order to continue to increase goodwill amongst the decision makers and amongst folks, maybe who don’t ever take the T, but certainly like to comment on it,’ he added…”
