The Green Line, which originated as a streetcar system, “was always designed to have a conductor collecting fares and someone driving the vehicle,” Kane said.

The T also notes that “fare engagement” rates — the ratio of payment “taps” to detected boardings and fare gate entries — appeared to tick up across all four lines after fare checkers began appearing at gated stations (for rider “education”)…”
